Festive Season Shopping Guide : Chennai Edition

What is life if not a blur of weddings and festivals with a few ordinary days in between? While that may sound like a true nightmare (and intense exaggeration) to some of you, for people like me I’m pretty sure that just sounds like the best life worth living. The only downside to this obviously, is the need for a bottomless festive wardrobe. And I know for a fact, that’s a task most of us Chennai girls struggle with.

You may recall my last shopping list  that undoubtedly made your life easier. I for one, definitely found some great stuff! Well, all of you are truly in luck because I’m back with my next list of shopping destinations for the festive season!

THE ARMOIRE : THE FESTIVE PREVIEW

When : 23 – 24 September, 2016
Where:
The Collective, Khader Nawaz Khan Road
What to expect:
Not sure if this time’s pop-up is extra special because, (a) it marks a year of Nandini Varshnei’s venture, (b) it has been curated by a wonderful bride-to-be, (c) the designers are truly amazing or (d) all of the above. As you can tell, this is the real deal. And if that didn’t convince you yet, let me tell you that Nandini truly walks the talk – while she loves all the designers showcasing at her pop up, she’s got a soft spot for Bhaavya Bhatnagar’s concept sarees which found a special place in her bridal trousseau.

THE KALAMKARI FESTIVAL

When : 24 September 2016
Where:
Luz House, Mylapore
What to expect:
A true lover of handlooms and Indian crafts would be aware of the Kalamkari style of block prints, which was originally done on fabric to resemble paintings with a quill. Anyway, knowing or not knowing shouldn’t stop you from checking out what promises to be kalamkari heaven with the prints mixed and matched with other styles of fabrics, cuts and styles. If you’re looking for something different this season, I think this is where you’d find it.

GET STYLISH WITH SHILPA VUMMITI

When : 24 September, 2016
Where:
Caratlane, Rutland Gate
What to expect:
Hosted by renowned local designer Shilpa Vummiti at the Caratlane experience store, this one is for all you brides out there who keep stepping out to buy jewellery but come home empty handed because you can’t quite make up your mind. With Shilpa on hand to share styling tips, I think you guys shouldn’t think twice about heading here over the weekend.

FUNKY FISH POP-UP : DESI TADKA

When : 29 September, 2016
Where:
Crowne Plaza Hotel
What to expect:
Am I allowed to have favourites? I think I can get away with it, and you wouldn’t even blame me because its hard not to love the Funky Fish pop-ups as much as I do. Not just plain ol’ shopping, but a complete fashion experience is what Funky Fish offers, and that’s what makes them stand out. This time will be no different, and I can give you my word for it. In fact, I’ve had a sneak peek in to their decor mood board, and all I can say is its a welcome change from the bleak and dreary rains in the city.

KAMAALGAADI GOES FESTIVE #WITHACAUSE

When :
 30 September – 1 October, 2016
Where:
Maalgaadi, Besant Nagar
What to expect:
The edgiest store in the city is back, and this time #withacause. In the spirit of the festive season, a part of the proceeds are going to be donated to the Becoming I Foundation, an organisation that does some amazing work for children and education. So not only do you get to shop for amazing pieces, and pick up some great gifts for the season, but also feel really really good about it. Shahin of Maalgaadi picks out I Am Design, Roxx, Babita, Chirag Nainani for the women, and Ajay Kumar and Sahil Aneja for the men, so make sure you check these brands out when you visit!

NAINA JAIN

When :
 17 – 18 October, 2016
Where:
The Folly, Amethyst
What to expect:
I first saw Naina Jain’s beautiful beautiful pieces at the Vogue Wedding Show and let me just say – I’m in love. She specialises in the Bandhani style of tie and dye, which I am a total sucker for so maybe I’m partial to her designs. But if the swarm of brides to be at her stall in Delhi was anything to go by, I’m not the only one. Think of her designer sarees and lehengas as heirloom trousseau pieces that you can pass on to your daughter but wouln’t want to because you’d still love it at the age of 80.

As always, if I’m attending these pop-ups, I’m going to be sharing my live updates on  Snapchat (add me: gprerna), so stay tuned! Better still, be there in person and come give me a hug! Or let me help you pick a dream outfit. And tell all your friends about these festive shopping haunts so I can say hi to them too!

Until then…

Love you too ♥
